A thriller. As in, kidnapping, threat of murder, but nobody actually dying. Or is that too close to a murder mystery?

what about a horror. I mean something is tearing people apart and he is the one who ends up saving everybody? I am trying to think of something that would fit into a series and, although your idea is good and i might end up using it, i think i would want to make that into a one off story
although this situation would be funny:

L: if you want ransom, i cannot give it to you, what i do have is a particular set of skills, if you do not give back my (insert loved one title here) i will find you and i will force you to watch me eat cake and assorted deserts. Oh and then i will kill you using the power of my mind!

well i wouldnt force the character to commit unnessesary acts of violence except on the monster/villain
Three more things i need help on
1 What would this character wear to distinguish him from L
2 what would be a good setting (i think that high school could be good)
3 What type of monster would be good for this story
